#3 Kahoot! is FUN

Assalamualaikum and hello everyone,

Today, I decided to do some revision with my Form 2 students on Water and Solutions KSSM syllabus. As they are lower form students, so I thought maybe the revision can be informative but fun.

I have been using Kahoot! as formative assessment to check students' understanding since last two years. It was fun, simple and easy to use.

The questions can be obtained online in Discover button in Kahoot! but this time, I chose to create it myself. This is because, I want to evaluate the understanding of my students based on what had been taught in class.

20 questions on Water and Solution can be viewed here

Students had to join the Kahoot! by entering the Game PIN

The questions will be displayed on the screen and the students will have to choose the answer on their device.

The number of students who answered correctly and wrongly will be shown after choosing their answers

After all the questions have finished, Kahoot! will show the winner of the quiz based on who got most questions correct.
The winner of the quiz

One new thing that I discover in Kahoot! is that, it can give us detailed analysis on the quiz performed. It can be downloaded in Excel form.

The report can be downloaded when view report button is clicked

The report is very detail and it can show the analysis for every questions in case we missed it during the session.

Drawbacks

1. Slow reader students might have difficulties when long questions are displayed as there are time limit for every questions.

I set the limit for 20 minutes for every questions. There were one question that's a bit long and tricky which needs the students to read it for few times in order to answer it. So, it will be quite disadvantageous for the slow readers as they could not give their best when answering the questions due to the short time frame. This

Hence, the analysis on that question might not be that reliable and teacher cannot exactly analyse the students.

2. Poor internet connection

When hosting Kahoot!, there is a possibility that the internet connection is out for a while. If that happens, the students cannot answer the questions and hence, the teachers cannot evaluate the students' understanding based on what was planned.

Positive Feedback

1. The students are actively engaged in the evaluation.

Usually, when teachers ask questions in class, only the determined and confident ones volunteer to answer. However, when using Kahoot!, anyone can participate anonymously as they are using their nickname. So, they do not have to be scared or intimidated even if they got it wrong.

This will somehow increase students' motivation especially the introverts to participate and engage in class.

2. Teachers can evaluate student' understanding instantly

This is a golden opportunity for teachers to evaluate students' understanding based on what had been learnt in class.

If teachers identified that most students lack in certain area after the Kahoot! session, they can improvise and focus on the specific area for the next lesson. Hence, teachers can organize their lesson well and prepared.

3. Of course, the students love it!

Today's generation who loves technology are more than happy to use it in class compared to the traditional learning method.

Most students were glad to use Kahoot! in class

In a nutshell, Kahoot! brings more benefits than harm to our education system. As teachers, we must always try to improvise our lesson for our students so that all of us can have a dynamic educational society.

That's all from me. Hope that you can benefit from this entry :)
See you in the next entry! 😎
